Curriculum Overview
Friends and Feelings
Friends and Feelings is a special part of our preschool day where we learn how to be kind, caring, and respectful friends. During this time, we focus on important social skills like sharing, taking turns, using kind words, and practicing good manners. We also learn about different feelings—what they look like, how they feel inside, and how to handle them in healthy ways. By understanding our own emotions and recognizing how others feel, we build strong relationships and create a classroom where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. We will incorporate this into our group circle time. The themes for each month will be included in our monthly newsletter.
Quiet Reset
Quiet Reset is a peaceful, ten-minute part of our day designed to help preschoolers rest and recharge. During this time, the lights are dimmed and calming instrumental music plays softly in the background. During this time, they will do relaxing activities like gentle yoga stretches, quiet activity boxes, listening to books on tape, or enjoying individual reading time. This soothing break gives students a chance to slow down, reset their bodies and minds, and prepare for the rest of the day with renewed focus and calm.
Literary Focus
Literary Focus is a focused time dedicated to exploring rich, high-quality literature through engaging and meaningful activities. Each session centers around a story that connects to a broader theme—often exploring different versions or perspectives of the same tale, such as the many retellings of The Three Little Pigs. Through this approach, students will dive deeper into literary elements like character, plot, and theme. Activities may include sequencing events, acting out scenes, comparing and contrasting versions, writing alternate endings, and examining characters across stories. This time is designed to spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and build a love for storytelling.
Dig Deeper
Dig Deeper is a focused part of our preschool day where students take a closer look at our monthly themes and expand their understanding through hands-on exploration and thoughtful learning. Instead of just covering the basics, this time allows us to go beyond surface-level knowledge. For example, during an apples theme, we won’t just learn that apples grow on trees—we’ll dig deeper by exploring the life cycle of an apple tree, the parts of an apple, how apples are harvested, different varieties of apples, and how weather and seasons affect their growth. This time encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a richer connection to the world around us.
The Rest of the Day
Many of the things we do in our classroom will not have physical things that your child will take home. So much of our learning will happen through games, experiments, physical play, conversations, and we will also utilize learning materials such as white boards, magnets, board games and more. I will put a sign up each day on the door frame that will list some of the activities we completed that day. Be sure to check it out and use that information to spark conversations at home.
